New Move Found For The Home Versions of MK4
Goro's Big Kick move where he sends the opponent flying across the screen has been discovered and is done by pressing B - B - HK. Also found was an easier way to get the alternate costumes. You can now rotate each character by simply holding Start and pressing any action button. The number of times you rotate dictates that costume you get. And also found was Noob Saibot's Air Throw and that is done by pressing Block in mid-air.

Noob Saibot's Goro Lair Fatal Found
IceOut has discovered Noob Saibot's Goro's Lair Pit Fatality for the home versions. Thanks to MKX for putting it up on their site. The movements are below:

Noob Saibot: F - D - F - HK (close)

MK4.com updates
The Official MK4 Site has been updated with a bit of information, not too much though, kinda like every other update with them, anyway, check it out if you've got some free time.

How to Get Alternate Costumes
Everybody already knew from E3 that in order to rotate the character's icon you had to Hold Start + Any Button. However it wasn't clearly specified what is needed to get the color/costume you wanted. Well, now it is known exactly what is needed to be done. In order to get the character's second color, rotate the icon once and select the character. In order to access the character's alternate costume, rotate the icon two times and then select the character. Sonya and Kai requires three rotations in order to get their alternate costume, this is more than likely a bug. If the character doesn't have an alternate costume, or if someone has already chosen that character's alternate costume, you will get the original colors of the character with a diffrent weapon. This should help clear up the uncertainty of the rotating icons. Thanks go to TRMK.

321 321 - Big Head Mode
313 313 - Snow Stage

They report that Sources at Midway's Texas office have been quoted as saying that the Nintendo 64 version of MK4 has shipped to the Blockbuster Video chain as an "Exclusive Pre-Release Rental". If this is indeed true, games could be on their shelves as early as tomorrow, June 12. They also have stated that the Limited Edition MK4 Comic Book is currently only available free of charge to those who pre-order MK4 from Electronics Boutique who is selling the N64 version of MK4 for $49.95 and the PSX version for $39.95.

July Issue of Gamepro Magezine Answers More Questions Reguarding MK4 Home Versions
The July issue of GamePro Magezine was in the mail for subsribers, but not store shelves yet. One thing it had was some interesting points about the PSX version of MK4:

  • There will be 2 new arenas - The Ice Pit and The Skull (You fight inside a human skull, but not too exciting visually)
  • So far the game is only a 60% complete version, but is looking very nice.

    - Another part of the section was that GamePro rated the complete version of MK4 for the N64 and here's the ratings it got: -

    Fun Factor: 4.5
    Control: 5.0
    Sound: 4.5
    Graphics: 4.5
18.5 out of 20 for the score.

  • Sub-Zero's Freeze of Death Fatality has some new ice effects to it.
  • There is also a strategy guide in the back that only covers Scorpion, Sonya, Sub-Zero, Quan Chi, and Jax. Part 2 in next month's issue.
Thanks go to Kombat Konnection for the information.

    The Official MK4 Site Updates
The Official Mortal Kombat 4 site has been updated once again. In this minor update of MK4.com, a few new images were added as well as a little info about MK4 at this year's E3 show down in Atlanta. They also state that the PC version of MK4 will include FMV intros and endings. Still no word on the release date of the PC version.

Noob.com Updates Home Section With E3 Information
Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat co-creator, has added a few photos from E3 to his Mortal Kombat 4Home Versions Section at Noob.com. However, his page also lists June 23rd as the release date for the Playstation and the Nintendo64 versions, which contradicts the official Press Release issued by Midway on May 18th, 1998. But I did find out that Electronic Boutique, a major chain for selling video games and computer software is getting their shipment June 24, 1998 and right now, you can pre-purchase it. I also found out that Software Etc. is selling the N64 version for $69.95 and the Playstation at $49.95 which is not what Midway stated in their price drop on the N64 version. Electronic Boutique is $54.95 for the N64 and again $49.95 for the Playstation so I guess it just matters where you get your copy from.

Secret Character Moves May Possibly Work
MKX has apparently gotten a possible moves list for Goro and Noob Saibot for the home systems of Mortal Kombat 4 from Dharmesh Topiwala who is up at E3. This moves list now includes a possible fatality for Noob Saibot, a torso rip like Johnny Cage's, where Noob apparently pulls the opponent in from anywhere on the screen and rips their torso in half. When these are confirmed, they will be posted immediatly. Until then, check out the list below.

    Goro's Moves:
    Fireball: F - B - HP
    Stomp: F - F - B - HK
    Lung Kick: B - B - HK
    Two Hand Swipe: F - F - HP

    Noob's Moves:
    Fireball: D - F - LP
    Teleport: D - U
    *Torso Rip Fatality: D - D - D - HP+LP (anywhere)

    More News From E3
Special thanks to E3 attendee Dharmesh for giving the full scoopage on Mortal Kombat 4's appearance at E3. We've split up his latest report into the diffrent platforms for easy reading. There are only 30 days left until MK4's release to PSX and N64.

    Playstation

  • The Playstation version looks a lot chopier than the N64 version, although the backgrounds are a lot smoother looking.
  • The FMV endings are very very cool. There is a Theater Mode that lets you watch the MK TV Commercial, as well as the game intro.
  • They have also taken the liberties to enhance some endings.
  • Goro is the sub-boss on every tower.
  • Once you put the cheat code in, there is an option to see anybody's ending by just beating the first guy.

    Nintendo 64

  • The N64 version on the other hand looks a lot better on the character side, but the backgrounds could have been better.
  • The sound is awesome a lot better than MK Trilogy's.
  • As you can tell the endings are real time like the arcade and have full voice with captions.
  • Noob Saibot's fireball lights his opponent breifly on fire. Not seen on the Playstation version.

MK4 Home Versions' Alternate Costume Descriptions
Second outfits are done by rotating the Select Screen pics a few times. Twice for all characters except Sonya & Tanya, who requires 3 rotations. These are what he saw:

  • Liu Kang: Head band, and a karate outfit.
  • Tanya: She wears a black dress.
  • Sonya: Pink outfit without a hat.
  • Raiden: Same outfit but has blue sleeves.
  • Kai: Leather jacker with sunglasses.
  • Reptile: Old ninja outfit from MK3.
  • Jax: White pants and a white shirt.
  • Johnny Cage: Tuxedo.
  • Noob Saibot: Hooded outfit (VERY cool) Full black (no mask or outfit visible).
  • Sub-Zero: He appears to be half frozen.
  • Scorpion: Grey outfit with no mask (skull face visible).

    Reiko Is Actually Shao Kahn???
Scrub-Zero was able to see some of the FMV endings in the PSX version at E3 today. Reikos is actually finished, after he walks through the portal it shows him come out on the other side. He then walks to a throne, sits down, and.....puts on his mask----Shao Kahn!! So Reiko is really Shao Kahn. A very nice set up for MK5 anyway. He also has some pictures. He will post them tomorrow. Thanks go to Kombat Konnection.

    MK4 on the PC
The cool people at Online Gaming Review have a little info on the PC version of MK4 that's being shown at E3. They say it's only about 30% done, does not look exactly like the arcade, and is Glide(3dfx's native programming API) only right now, but Direct3d support is probable.

Goro & Noob Saibot Codes Unveiled At E3
There is breaking news that the codes to unlock Prince Goro & Noob Saibot have been uncovered at E3 and TRMK was the first to report them. However, TRMK has confirmed that the code there is more to the code. In order to play as Goro or Noob Saibot, you must first enable the cheat menu. This was originally undiscovered since people had done the last step without knowing that someone had already enabled the cheat menu before. Special thanks to Dharmesh who found out the full routine to play as Goro and Noob Saibot.

    - Secret Menu -

Nintendo 64: At the Options menu, go to Continue Options and then hold BL+RN for about 10 seconds, the cheat menu will reveal itself.

Playstation: Same as N64 but go to the Vs Screen Enabled option.

    - Characters -

Goro: Select the Hidden button on the bottom of the select screen, move up 3, and over 1 (to Shinnok's icon) then press RN+BL together.

Noob: Select the Hidden button on the bottom of the select screen, move up 2, and over 1 (to Reiko's icon) then press RN+BL together.

    Live Interviews Straight From E3
Now you can view the interview with Ed Boon & Dave Michicich at Midway's E3 Coverage page with all the lastest from the show and the interview taped live today in Atlanta, Georgia. If you do not have Real Player 5.0 which is required to view the interview, then go here for all the supplies you need so you can listen in on what the two had to say.

    Official MK4 Site Updates
It's true, the Official MK4 site finally updated their site, but not to much extent. They put a few nice graphics up for the Home Versions that are coming out soon and some information about them concerning release dates and technical info. They also added a link to Ed Boon's new page on the home versions which isn't too bad either. Check it out.

GameSpot Updates With Review of 100% Complete N64 Version
GameSpot has updated with a full review of MK4 for Nintendo 64. They gave it an overall 8.9 from a 8 in gameplay, 8 in graphics, 9 in sound, 9 in value, and a 10 in the reviewer's tilt. The graphics aren't as good as the arcade as usual arcade ports but they're pretty damn close compared to other MK games. The only big problem is the control. The N64 controller gets in the way while trying to pull off fatalities and the default buttons are terrible. That can easily be fixed by changing them in options to the way you want them. If that doesn't help you could buy an arcade controller. They said the best part about the N64 was the sound. They were stunned at how high in quality the sound was. That's pretty good for a cartridge game because those usually don't have good sound at all. Eurocom did a well done job on this game and Tuesday, June 29 for all you that don't know by now, MK4 is going to rock the videogame industry so be prepared.

    Midway's E3 Plans
Midway has updated with an E3 page. On the page, it has the schedule for different Midway employees that will be doing live web interviews via Real Video from Midway's E3 booth. The two that will be representing MK4 will be Ed Boon and Dave Michicich on May 29th at 1pm EST and knowing those two will be there, that's good news.

Midway Releases Home System Press Release
Midway has changed the release of MK4 on the N64 from June 23rd, to June 29th. The Playstation version is still set for June 23rd. Also changed was the price of the N64 version. It dropped from $59.95 to $49.95 which is basically good. But just because the price is lower, don't think the game will follow. It's actually just the opposite in this case. Midway claims that they're so confident in the N64 version that they've lowered it's prices to please the consumer. Also mentioned in the press release, was the story behind the commercials aired during the MK Movie Sunday on TBS. They have commercials airing on Comedy Central, USA, TNT, TBS, and MTV. They will be displayed during shows like South Park on Comedy Central, Beavis & Butthead and Daria on MTV, WCW Thunder on TBS, and Saved by the Bell and Baywatch on USA.

    MK4 Home Version Advertisement
For those of you that watched the television broadcast premiere of Mortal Kombat The Movie, you saw the first MK4 commercial. It also shows one of the mysterious black and white characters that was in Ed Boon's preview. Since we know for sure that Noob Saibot is in the game, no one has a clue what the story is with the black and white people. Kingdom MK managed to video tape the advertisement and put it online. You can download it here. Please note though, it requires Indeo 5.0 so download load the thing, it's worth it.
